Emmys 2013

I adore this modern look, red carpet events have guests either chasing a classic dress, or a shocking modern creative dress. Predictable dress code. However, Emmys 2013 saw a fresh, pristine contemporary look, with nods to satisfy both ends of the spectrum. The contrast between the sharp cuts of fabric and the simple shapes against the whimsical, girly, fresh pastels seduces the eye. Above Rose Byrne wore a custom-designed Calvin Klein Collection top and skirt and Zooey Deschanel wore a J. Mendel dress. Below Christina Hendricks wore a Christian Siriano dress and Vera Farmiga wore a custom-designed Theyskens' Theory dress, both beautys in black. The sleeves on both garments soften the look and keep with the A/W trends of sleeves. The backless cut out of Veras dress flatters the curve of her back and gives a modern finish. I love the full skirt on this gown too, it has a classical feel and softens the look. Christinas dress is a dress for a goddess, her curves are silhouetted perfectly in this gown, the fit makes the fabric hug her and accenuate her figure. The delicate lace sleeves add a quirky and romantic edge to the dress, and the peplum style frill below the waist flatters her shape even more so.

And if you find the burst of colour in Autumn, make it bright! Like these stunning gowns, from the two tone reds, to the royal blue and to the bright yellow. The two tone Prada gown worn by Michelle Dockery is an elegant contelporary choice. the risen hem at the front of the gown is an elongating quirk and the full circle skirt cut gives a reworked 50s look. Yellow is a colour rarely seen on these occasions, perhaps too much of a risque colour for some, but not for Anna Faris. Her sugar blonde locks and fair complextion are warmed in this Monique Lhuillier floaty gown. Dazzling! Allison Williams might not have worn the only royal blue gown of the night, but this custom-made Ralph Lauren gown flattered her silhouette with the simple cut and modest a-line skirt Alison achieved contemporary elegance effortlessly with out anything to distract us from her natural beauty.
Ladies in Red, what could be more sultry, more alluring and more feminine than a lady in red? A dress, which every lady should have in my opinion. Powerful, flirty, feminine...these ladies have opted for two polar opposite designs, yet both obtain the status of a goddess. Sofia Vergara wore a Vera Wang gown which hugged her figure modestly with a dropped waist and mermaid skirt. Kelly Osbourne wore a Jenny Packham gown with a floaty, summer goddess feel. Her neckilne is modest and the sleeves soften her chest, the soft layers of the chiffon offers a delicate contrast against the harsh, powerful colour, red. And for these gowns below? I want you to look at them, look at how the person wears it, see how it fits them, how it makes them glow with confidence. Look at the fabrics, the minute detailing, the elements that make them unique. The dress cannot be made to fit a woman, but the woman is made to fit the dress.
January Jones wore a Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci pre-spring/summer 2014, Kiernan Shipka in a Delpozo dress, and Claire Danes wore an Armani PrivĂ© autumn/winter 2013 gown.

No.21 Not a name I am familiar with to be fair, however their SS14 collection at London Fashion Week was beautiful. A reoccurring colour palette for the next season is monochrome, and by using this as a base for their intriguing detailing on their skirts, the sharp, blunt cuts of their jackets, and the feminine skirts they are paired with, a harsh contrast to the boxy masculine shapes, their collection stood out to me more so than others. Whereas the spring/summer season usually exceeds in a kaleidoscope of colours, bright collisions or pastel floral prints, this spring is fresh. Different. Modern.

This week, I feel that the designers have pushed fashion, not into an insane, unwearable creation of dare, but into a new silhouette, fit and detail. -end-
